We Wanted More Than Just a Family Getaway—So We Created It
Jul 21, 2025
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
- Proverbs 16:3
In 2020, we packed up our minivan and headed to a place we’d never been before—Aspen, Colorado. Our kids were 4, 6, 7, and 9 at the time, and we had signed up for something we had never experienced before: a family mastermind retreat.
The event was hosted by a mastermind group we were part of at the time. It was held at the beautiful Westin Snowmass Resort, and while we were excited, we honestly didn’t know what to expect. Would it feel awkward? Would the kids be bored? Would this actually be worth it?
But we knew one thing: we wanted to be intentional with our family, and this felt like a step in that direction.
From the moment we arrived, we knew it was going to be special. Every detail had been thought through—delicious dinners and breakfasts together, breakout sessions for parents and kids, time to connect with other families, and space to play, learn, and grow together.
Some of our favorite memories:
-
Enjoying listening to J. Hobbs Music with the kids dancing along
-
Watching our kids present their vision boards after a family goal-setting session
-
Snow tubing and riding the mountain coaster, laughing and holding on tight
-
Eating s’mores and drinking hot cocoa together
- Swimming in a heated pool with snow all around us
-
Learning from passionate speakers who challenged us to dream big as a family
It was the kind of weekend that seems to slow time down for a moment.
What we loved most, though, was that we did it together. We weren’t dropping kids off at childcare while we sat in a conference room. We were learning together, dreaming together, and having deep, soul-shaping conversations that wouldn’t necessarily have happened at home around the dinner table.
But there was one thing missing—a Christ-centered focus.
While the event was inspiring and impactful, we left with a longing for something more. We wanted to create this kind of intentional space for our family with Jesus at the center.
Over the years, we kept thinking back to that trip. The growth it sparked in our family. The questions it raised. The clarity it brought.
And the dream began to form.
What if other Christian families could experience something like this—together?
What if there was a place where families could worship, learn, rest, and grow?
What if we could build something that helped families create a legacy of faith?
We started praying. We shared the idea with a few friends. We began talking to other families to see if there might be interest in something like this.
The responses were encouraging—but we weren’t sure when or how to take the next step.
Then our life coach gave us the nudge we needed:
“It’s time to stop waiting and start planning.”
That simple encouragement helped us move from dreaming to doing.
We started looking at venues. We prayed for the right people. We began building a vision that we called The Faithful Families Retreat—a Christ-centered retreat experience for families who want to grow in faith, purpose, and connection.
We reached out to Chap Clark—his heart for families and deep biblical teaching is inspiring. He said yes.
Then we connected with Emily Krill (who I had met at a women’s event), and she and her husband Mikey agreed to lead worship. Another yes.
Doors kept opening, and we kept walking through them.
And now—it’s happening.
This September, we’re hosting the very first Faithful Families Retreat at the Omni Orlando Resort. It's a space for intentional Christian families to come away together—to refocus, reconnect, and realign their lives with what matters most.
We believe families thrive when they grow together.
When faith is lived out, not only taught.
When memories are made in the context of worship, fun, learning, and rest.
We can’t wait to see what God will do.
If your heart longs to be more intentional as a family…
If you’re longing for connection—not just with your spouse or kids, but also with God…
If you want to build a legacy of faith that lasts…
We’d love for you to join us in Orlando.
